Five years ago you played
on the beach,
You collected seashells
with sand in your hair.
We challenged the waves
and laughed at the gulls.
You never complained
about green flies
or the hot sticky day.
Smiles drenched your face,
so tan from the sun.
As I l gaze at the photo of you
with shovel and pail,
I long to return to the sea
to build castles in the sand.
